SWAT '16

Most of the RIEM students had absolutely no idea of what SWAT actually is. For those still unaware, SWAT stands for Students Working in Advanced Technology. Putting it out roughly, this is the technology club of RIE Mysore. 

This is not a new club. SWAT was developed some years ago, but got a bit inactive in the last year. Well, we have no intention to let that happen again. SWAT has now come back with a strong and responsible team of SWATmates, who are active day and night. 

SWAT '16 held its inauguration function on Monday, February 8. The inauguration was done by Dr. G.V. Gopal, Head, DESM. Dr.Biju.K accepted to be the faculty-in-charge of the club, upon our request. The function was followed by a short presentation on the SWAT club activities planned for this semester. 

A summary of the presentation

Who are we?

• A group of tech-enthusiasts who don’t claim to be professionals. Whatever we have, we wish to share.
• We wish to redefine the thoughts on technology.
• We wish to provide knowledge from a very basic level.
• We provide a platform for innovative thinking.

Why do we need a SWAT club?

• To attain basic knowledge of the latest advancements in technology.
• To accept responsibility of the technical needs of the students.
• To learn how to incorporate teaching tools in the classroom using technology.
• To learn how to use technology to ease day-to-day duties.
• To be aware of the various threats and dangers of the internet.

ACTIVITIES (Planned)

• Modulate the student community using Google Groups.
• Build a blog to bring out the creative skills of the students.
• Publish department newsletters (yearly).
• Tutorials on basic designing.
• Constructing study materials and teaching tools using different software.
• Entertaining brain-games to enhance the logic skills.

SERVICES

• Technical Assistance for laptops and smartphones
• Posters for various events
• Media editing for cultural events
• Posters for general awareness
• Assistance for online applications
